P&A Therapeutic Horsemanship Centre

Our Therapeutic Horsemanship Centre offers a unique, hands-on experience where ponies and people come together to support emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing.

Through tailored activities, participants build confidence, learn new skills, and create meaningful connections with ponies and nature. Whether in a one-on-one session or a group setting, our centre provides a calm, supportive environment where individuals of all ages can grow, heal, and thrive.

What Is Therapeutic Horsemanship?

Therapeutic horsemanship is the practice of working with ponies to promote emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. It involves tailored activities such as grooming, groundwork, and observing herd behaviour, which helps students build confidence, develop trust, recover from crisis, and learn valuable lifelong skills.

At our Therapeutic Horsemanship Centre, sessions are designed to create a calming and supportive environment, encouraging growth and connection for individuals of all abilities. It’s a unique approach that combines learning, mindfulness, coupled with the grounding presence of ponies and other animals.

How Can Therapeutic Horsemanship Help?

Therapeutic horsemanship supports emotional wellbeing, mental health, and physical wellbeing through equine-facilitated learning. Sessions focus on confidence improvement, self-awareness, and managing emotions in a calm and grounding environment.

Natural horsemanship encourages empathic connections, fostering trust, responsibility, and emotional growth. Hands-on activities like grooming and mindfulness sessions promote fine motor skills and personal development, creating meaningful and lasting connections.

Is Therapeutic Horsemanship
Right for You?

Therapeutic horsemanship supports individuals with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or disabilities, helping to improve confidence, self-awareness, and emotional wellbeing. Our approach provides equine-facilitated learning and mindfulness sessions for those with mental health conditions, physical disabilities, PTSD, unexpected challenges, eating disorders or behavioural challenges, fostering empathic connections with the animals and mental wellbeing.

People dealing with bereavement or dementia also benefit from gentle, natural horsemanship-based activities that promote physical and emotional wellbeing. Each session encourages connection, growth, and support in a calm, nurturing environment, building confidence and focus.

What’s Involved in a Session?

Therapeutic horsemanship sessions are tailored to each participant’s needs and can last either 1 or 2 hours. They are available as one-on-one or group sessions and can be adapted to fit school curriculums.

Activities include grooming and massage to build bonds, in-hand obstacle courses and trail walks, learning horse care skills like feeding and field maintenance, and observing herd behaviour to understand natural communication and body language. There is also opportunity in these sessions to interact with other animals such as our beautiful rabbits, or friendly guinea pigs.

Accessible Opportunities for All

We’re committed to making therapeutic horsemanship accessible. Sessions can be funded privately or through Social Services if eligible for direct payments.

We’re happy to work with schools and organisations and also explore additional funding options. Please contact us to discuss your needs and find the best solution.

Caring for Our Ponies

Pony welfare is a top priority. Our ponies live in a mixed herd with outdoor access, allowing natural movement and social interaction. Sessions are designed around their comfort and wellbeing.

They also enjoy grooming, bonding, and play. Licenced care records monitor their health, ensuring they remain happy and healthy.
